Amy, this was so meaningful to me. Thank you for a great piece. I like that communal confession too. I think sometimes the reason private confession is so hard is that we are naming things we've named SO MANY TIMES BEFORE without ever having done anything about changing our thoughts, behaviors, omissions, as if just admitting our sin is somehow enough. At least that's the case for me.

Thanks, Crystal. And that's another thing to confess, isn't it? That I'm sorry, and that I still lack to willpower to try to. change.

I’ve never done the reconciliation of a penitent but i have read it many times. I wonder why in Form two, they dropped the words of the priest asking the penitent to pray for them also. I love that element.

I do too... and at the Celtic service in Lent at Trinity, we use a beautiful opening:

Celebrant: I confess to God, and in the presence of all God’s people, that I have

sinned in thought, word, and deed, and I pray God almighty to have mercy on

me.

People: May God have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from your

sins, and give you time to amend your life.

Celebrant: Amen.

People: We confess to God, and in the presence of all God’s people, that

we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and we pray God

almighty to have mercy on us.

Celebrant: May God have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from your sins,

and give you time to amend your life.

People: Amen.
